CONJUNTO RAICES
Latin Band

From Boston to Miami to Puerto Rico and back, Conjunto Raices is known as one of the best Latin musical groups from the Hub.

Originally created in 1995 as a church group in Boston’s historic South End, the     goal of Conjunto   Raices is to keep the Latin music tradition alive.  As reflected in its name, meaning “Group Roots,” Conjunto Raices is heavily involved with the community.  Focusing on social issues and causes such as teen workshops, as well as working with children with special needs, the group’s members feel that it is incredibly important to give back to the people of Boston.

Conjunto Raices is comprised of 10 amazingly talented musicians, who represent a spectrum of ages, but who all have the same goal: Proudly representing their Latin roots. Founding member Angel L. Lopez, an experienced musician, composer, and vocalist, has led the group to ground breaking beginnings and higher standards, while incorporating the past.  Conjunto Raices has the ability to adapt and incorporate local talent depending on where it plays.  In Miami, the group expands to 14 with the addition of a horn section.

For the past four years, the group has represented the Latin musical community as a special performer at El Jolgorio Navideño, the biggest Latino gala in Massachusetts.  The event draws over 3,500 attendees and Conjunto Raices aims to please every last one of them. The musicians have also performed for Wellesley College at its annual Christmas Festival for the past three years, and most recently performed at World Day in Jamaica Plain, Mass. The band excels at attracting fans to events as well as interacting with them at their performances. “It is not uncommon to see many people up by the stage, dancing the night away,” says Lopez.

Conjunto Raices has plans to redefine Latino music as people view it.  It is working to create an “English Salsa” genre of music.  The band feels that the music should be enjoyed by all, regardless of language.

Conjunto Raices has recorded songs in Boston as well as Puerto Rico, and their debut album will be released soon.  Music by Conjunto Raices is available at www.conjuntoraices.com
